Honoring Veterans and Inspiring Youth: 2024 Veteran’s Day ‘Touch History’ Event a Huge Success

The Mississippi Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, in partnership with the Madison County Library System, proudly hosted the 2024 Veteran’s Day Weekend ‘Touch History’ Event—a hands-on experience that connected the community with aviation history in an unforgettable way. This co-sponsored event brought together children, families, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts for a day of learning, exploration, and celebration of our nation’s military legacy.

An Interactive Experience with Living History

Held in the Mississippi Wing’s hangar, the ‘Touch History’ event provided children with a unique opportunity to engage with real airplanes, military vehicles, and artifact. With over 1,000 spectators and children in attendance, this family-friendly event made history come alive through hands-on interactions with:

• Historic aircraft – Children had the rare chance to get up close and touch warbirds that once soared in service to our country.

• Military jeeps and motorcycles – Attendees sat in and explored authentic military vehicles used in past conflicts.

• Veterans and pilots – Guests had the privilege of meeting and learning from veterans who shared firsthand stories of their experiences.

The event fostered a deep appreciation for military history, especially among younger generations, while also honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
